When you first create a collection, it will automatically enter edit mode. To get a quick tour of edit mode, click More, then Help Tour.

To edit a collection, you must be an owner or moderator. For more information on roles, see Collaboration.

To enter edit mode from view mode, click Edit at the top right of the collection header. 

To enter edit mode from the dashboard, click Edit on a collection. 

In edit mode, you can add, edit, and sort content. You can also create milestones and series for content. Lastly, you can manage settings, edit privacy, invite collaborators, and manage threads.

You will see content, timeline, and series navigation tabs even if they have been hidden in Collection View Controls. Hidden content is also visible. There is no tab for places in edit mode, but any content with a location will automatically appear on the map.

To enter view mode from edit mode, click View at the top right of the collection header. In view mode, hidden navigations tabs and content are not visible.
